Nanbaka: Episode 1 Recap

I finally am getting around to watching Nanbaka, and it's not quite what I expected. It has brilliant colors, is lighthearted, but it also seems to have some darker undertones. I'm looking forward to seeing where they plan on taking it in future episodes.

One thing that I really love is just the animation. I'm not super hyped up on the characters, maybe because I haven't really gotten familiar with them, but I love all of the art. It's bright, it's colorful, it just pops and really contrasts against the majority of anime that seem to sport softer colors. Notice that in pretty much every single scene, there are sparkles in the air? It's like everything has this sort of glow, not quite what you would expect from a state of the art prison.

I'm also enjoying just the lightness of it, the humor isn't always on point, but overall I really enjoy it. I think my favorite piece was when they referenced the Fujoshi, girls who are really into BL. I thought it was clever, and a bit funny, since it hasn't been common to find a lot of blatant references. Although Kiss Him Not Me is centered around a fujoshi... other than that it's rare. So far, like it a lot, and Am willing to invest more time into watching more of the series.
