Fate/Apocrypha

{For more information on the Fate Series, see the following anime descriptions: Fate/ZeroFate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works}

Set in an alternate world from Fate/Stay Night, the Greater Grail of Fuyaki has been stolen by the magi clan Yggdmillennia, who have separated from Clock Tower and the Association of Magi. The clan has summoned all seven classes of the servants and united them into the Black Faction, planning on keeping the Grail for themselves. After a member of the Association made slight changes to the Grail War system, the Clock Tower was able to summon seven servants of their own, creating the Red Faction. The battle between the two factions commence, all for the sake of the holy Grail. Due to the discord between the groups, the Holy Grail summons a Ruler class servant to serve as a moderator of the war. It's an amazing light novel for the Type-Moon series, and the appearance of Jeanne D'arc (My hero and senpai) was great. There are several blogs that have taken the liberty of translating the novels. The writing style for the novels are inspirational, and have motivated me to write some short stories of my own.

Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

Do you like romance? Blooming flowers? Epic love stories? No? I don't either friend. Yet this wonderful romantic anime has stolen my heart. It starts with the school delinquent Ryu Yamada, who's  completely bored of his school. That is, until he falls on the stairs and switches bodies with the girl he fell with. His adventures continue with her, Urara Shiraishi, as they return to their bodies and learn about the legend of the seven witches at their school. With help from the competing student council president candidates, new friends, and the powers of the witches, maybe their unlikely relationship will work out. The art style for this show is very nice and aesthetic, plus the opening theme song is enough to move you to tears if you watch it with the opening sequence. The complexity of the main characters is refreshing, but some of the minor characters who don't receive much screen time aren't developed very well. But since it focuses on Shiraishi and Yamada, it's not of much concern. It's a nice blend of romance and magic, with the added adventure of the Supernatural Studies Club and their search for the other witches in the school. I highly recommend this anime, it has nice characters and an interesting plot line, although not quite developed enough yet. Here's to hoping for a possible season two with more in depth content!

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

{For more information on the Fate Series, see Fate/Zero}

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works is a remake of the original Fate/Stay Night anime, and a sequel to Fate/Zero. It follows along the same system. Set in Fuyaki City, the Holy Grail War takes place between seven mages chosen to be Masters. These Masters summon servants, heroic spirits from the past or distant future to battle. The winner claims the Holy Grail, an omnipotent wish-granting device. It's been ten years since the last Holy Grail War, and the Grail has arrived again. The adopted son of Kiritsugu Emiya, Shirou, has been given Command Spells, marking him as a Master. From there, he teams up with Rin Tohsaka, the daughter of a man who participated in the previous Grail War. Together they battle against even stronger odds, the corrupt Grail, and even Rin's mysterious Servant Archer. The battles are intense, the characters heartwarming, and the plot almost hurts at times. Highly recommended anime, anything Fate Series related is worth it.

Fate/Zero

Fate/Zero is based off of the Fate series games by Type Moon. It's a sort of prequel anime to Fate/Stay Night, both the first version and Unlimited Blade Works. It features several different points of views with different characters, and the graphics are to die for. In this world, mages are common place, people with magic circuits inside of them. Magic circuits are like nerves, throughout their body, giving them the ability to use magecraft. In the city of Fuyuki, the Holy Grail War takes place. Seven Masters, generally accomplished mages, are chosen by the Holy Grail to participate in the war. Three command spells appear on their hand, which give them the right and power to control their Servants. Servants are heroes or historical figures that are summoned through time to fight with their Master for the sake of the Holy Grail. The last one standing claim the Holy Grail, and can claim a single wish from the omnipotent wish granter. This is the fourth Grail War, the previous three not having a winner. The Seven Masters emerge, along with their servants, and an intense battle commences. I (Cat) am in love with everything involved in the Fate Series especially Fate/Zero because it explains the events leading up to the popular Unlimited Blade Works anime. I love the character Gilgamesh (makes my heart go doki-doki) but I also love Waver Velvet and Iskander. Waver and Iskander seem to be almost separate from the war. They participate in the battle, but they still have a strong friendship. They support each others dreams, and have each others backs. If you like mind-blowing things, then the Fate Series is for you. Warning, there are some tragic parts.

Poyopoyo

Poyo is a perfectly round cat found by Satou Moe, who adopts him into the Satou family. Poyo has many misadventure in the short episodes, making new friends around every corner from humans and birds, to hamsters and other cats. The anime also delves into the relationships of Moe, her brother Hind, and their father. It also depicts some of the stories of other pet owners and their feelings for their pets. I personally love Poyo because he's just so adorable, and he always pulls through. The art is simplistic, which makes it inspiring to sketch him from time to time, and have it come out really nice. I highly recommend watching Poyopoyo of you want a short anime, but something with heartwarming content.

Chis Sweet Home

Chi is an adorable little kitten found on the streets by a young boy named Youhei and his family. Chi was a nameless gray and white kitten who was separated from her mother and siblings. She's grateful for her new home, but there's one problem. The family apartment doesn't allow any pets! The first season follows Chi's misadventures as she grows up, avoids trouble with the landlord, and slowly learns about life. In the second season, Chi and her family move to a new place where pets are allowed, and Chi just stirs up new batches of trouble. Chi is such a fun character to sketch, and the episodes are short as well. It's a good anime to relax to, and if you love cats you'll love Chi.

Akame ga Kill

Akame ga Kill takes place in a world where the Empire rules with an iron fist over the commoners. They murder and torture any innocents who get in their way, and even for the fun of it. Anyone with power has become corrupt. A young boy named Tatsumi comes to the Capital with his two friends in hopes of sending money back to his starving village, but they fall into the clutches of corrupt nobles, and Tatsumi's two friends are killed. He then is saved by Night Raid, a group of assassins representing the revolution who do front line work for the sake of the people. He is brought into their ranks, and from there they work together to fight against the Empire. In Night Raid there is the swords women Akame, scissor master Sheele, genius sniper Mine, string wielding Lubbock, the armored man Bulat, transforming lion lady Leone, and their leader Najenda. Each possesses a Imperial Arms, weapons and useful tools made though alchemy with materials from legendary Danger Beasts. Only 45 exist, and they're incredibly powerful. Night Raid battles against many others with Imperial Arms, including the Jeagers, formed by the Capital. They also battle against the famous General Esdeath, with an almost unbeatable ice type Imperial Arms. This is such a great anime, with action and adventure everywhere. The characters are lovable which makes it even harder to watch this without crying. Many characters do die, which is heartbreaking. But it's worth it, both the anime and the manga pull you in.

Guilty Crown

Image result for guilty crownIn 2039 Japan, the world which has fallen under control of GHQ, an independent military society that is trying to return order to the world after an apocalyptic disease ten years ago. Another guerrilla group, led by Gai Tsutsugami, are freedom fighters. They are called Funeral Parlor. They are the only resistance. The main characters are Inori Yuzuriha and Shuu Ouma. If I went any further I’d be giving away a lot of stuff in the first episode which is fun to figure out by yourself, so you can do that. You, yes you the reader, should watch it because it has an amazing art style and storyline. It contains moments that make you want to run around and laugh and be happy, and it contains moments that make you want to curl into a fetal position and cry. I found it after my sister told me to watch it before she went to college, and it has become one of my favorites.

Summer Wars

Summer Wars is an anime about Kenji Koiso, a male high school student capable of
genius-level mathematics. Takashi Sakuma, is the male friend of Kenji, along with part-time coder in OZ. Natsuki is a girl who abducts Kenji to her great-grandma’s birthday. It's set in around 2015 in the online world of OZ, basically a virtual reality where you can do everything you do in real life, such as file taxes. It also takes place at Natsuki’s great-grandma’s house. (mansion). The World of OZ is endangered by a hacker, bringing life to a halt. *spoilers, so will not reveal rest of plot* I like it because I love computers, especially online realities. I want others to like it because this will probably happen, or at least something like it will, in the future. It popped up in my Netflix DVD queue, and I decided to watch it because of its compelling description.

Noragami

Noragami is a fantastic anime marketed by Funimation. There is a high level of
fantasy and supernatural in this anime, living up to its manga version. This anime takes place in the early 2000s in Japan. Yato, a small god (deity) roams Japan in search of fame and fortune, but is soon met by a girl saving him from a bus. He would not have died of course, as he is a god, but the girl was left in an odd state. Hiyori Iki was now part phantom; dark creatures that feed off life and are unseen to the human eye. She is not evil, as other phantoms are, but more so on the edge of her human existence. If she falls into depravity, she's gone. Hiyori and Yato, along with Yato's shinki, Yuki - one of the few souls that have not fallen into depravity - go through thick and thin to save people, and even other gods. The plot is magical. It's filled with adventure, neutral romance, and adorable characters that make you want jump into the anime and squeeze the life out of them! There is no other anime like this that I have ever seen, the idea seems so completely original and lives up to its manga. Noragami was the first anime I've ever seen as well; I was simply scrolling through Netflix when I first saw it. The twelve episodes are filled with awesome, action, and questions that will be solved with time. The second season is unfortunately not on Netflix yet, but is online. Noragami is amazing, heartbreaking, action packed, adventurous, original, funny, and imaginative. Not to mention, the opening songs are catchy~!

Steins;Gate

Steins;Gate is a sci-fi thriller based anime with comedy, romance, psychological and drama aspects. The anime is set in 2010 BCE in Akihabara, Japan. The main cast of characters are all in or eventually become lab members of the male protagonist Okabe Rintarou's "lab" where they try to make useful but fun things, all of their past experiments have failed. Okabe or as he likes to be called 'Hououin Kyouma' as he likes to act like a mad scientist and is a bit delusional but a lovable character. Our main female lead was forced to join the lab by Okabe and her name is Makise Kurisu, a genius girl from America who is a bit of a tsundere. The other members include cute and innocent Mayuri, the otaku pervert Daru, a rich girl who works at a maid cafe named Ferris, a silent and mysterious girl named Moeka, a part time worker at the appliance store beneath the lab named Suzuha, and a feminine crossdresser named Ruka. Together they figure out they can send text messages back in time with a microwave and then the crazy adventure begins. I love this anime because of the character interactions, the development and breakdown of our lead, how it kept me on the edge of my seat and I just couldn't stop watching it. This anime also definitely has a re-watch value and has 24 episodes, the beginning may be slow and a bit confusing but it gets a lot better! I find even the 'slow paced' beginning to be nice as we learn more about each character. This is a great anime I find that everyone should watch someday.

Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail is set in a world where magic is an everyday occurrence, and wizards gather together in guilds. The series starts out with novice wizard Lucy Heartfilia, a runaway from her controlling father. She runs into Natsu Dragneel, a fire dragon slayer who’s searching for his missing dragon father. Together they go on adventures when Lucy becomes part of the Fairy Tail guild, known for causing chaos and havoc, although they’re all well-meaning. Their adventures are so much fun to follow, and the different types of magic are awesome. And the multitude of characters make things so realistic. I have to admit, my favorite character is either Erza Scarlett or Gray Fullbuster, both essential parts to the plot of Fairy Tail and guild members who go out on adventures with Lucy, Natsu, and of course the exceed cat Happy. It’s very long, and there isn’t an obligation to keep watching it, but I highly suggest watching the first season. From there, you’ll know if you’re hooked or not.

Blue Exorcist

Rin Okumura has always been a problem child. He lives with his adopted priest father and twin brother Yukio, and has a knack for finding trouble. One day, he started seeing strange things and being targeted by what seem like monsters. After his adopted father is possessed and killed by Satan, Rin discovers he’s the son of Satan. Determined to seek revenge on Satam, he becomes an exorcist, only to learn from his twin brother Yukio had already become an exorcist. As Rin battles against his demon powers and earn the respect and trust of those around him, he still forages on. Blue Exorcist not only focuses on our protagonist Rin, there's also a good amount of side character development. The art style is so beautiful, and all of the exorcist classes and powers are just fascinating. Blue Exorcist is also the fandom that has a lot of good, quality fanfiction.

Black Butler

In Victorian-era England, thirteen year old Ciel Phantomhive is the faithful guard dog of the Queen, owner of the Phantomhive estate, and head of the Funtom toy company. Always at his side is his capable, reliable demon butler Sebastian Michaelis. In order to save himself from terrible circumstances after the death of his family, Ciel formed a contract with Sebastian. Sebastian will be Ciel's loyal butler and do whatever he commands, and help Ciel get revenge on those who have slandered or wronged the Phantomhives. In exchange the demon will get to eat Ciel’s soul. Until then, Sebastian is bound to the young boy. The role of the Phatomhives is to rid the streets of crime and keep a tight hold on illegal activities. With the supernatural powers of Sebastian, he easily dispatches of enemies, until others with incredible abilities start to show up. Black Butler currently has three series, and several OVA's. Another series has recently been announced, which has caused much excitement. The plot line keeps fans on their toes constantly, and while it can be confusing, it's beautifully intricate. The anime is very well made, and the voices in both the sub and dub are well chosen. The manga is also very well drawn. An Anime Society favorite.

Attack On Titan

Set in a post apocalyptic world where giant human eating creatures known as Titans have taken over the lands, this is not an anime for the faint of heart. The only thing protecting the last of the human race are giant walls. The protagonist is Eren Jaeger, a young boy who lost his mom and his home when a giant Titan broke through the first of the three walls, destroying his village. Later, he joined his adopted sister Mikasa and his friend Armen as they join the Scouts, a branch in the army that go outside of the walls to fight Titans. Most consider joining the Scouts a suicide mission, but Eren wants to give it everything he has to fight back against the Titans. As he trains alongside Mikasa, Armen, and his fellow Scouts, Eren has to face the truth about what life on the outside is like, and what he truly is. Attack on Titan can seem like a very over hyped series, but it deserves all of the recognition it receives. I have always believed that some of the most beautiful things are the tragic ones, and AOT proves my point. It's a heartbreaking series, but it is very well made. The manga is incredible, including all of the side arcs. The live action film and the anthology are great as well. It may be a little too intense for some just starting to watch anime, but at some point, every anime fan should watch this series.

Mekakucity Actors

On August 15th, several lives quietly changed. Kisaragi Shintaro is a NEET, who hasn't stepped outside of his home on two years. His only companion is a cyber girl named Ene who forced her way into Shintaro's computer. After an accident with his keyboard, he's forced to go outside. Unfortunately for him, he's caught up in a store robbery, and has to think on his feet in order to save himself. It's there that he encounter the Mekakushi-Dan, Blindfold Gang. They're a group of teens who wield mysterious eye powers, who are banding together and trying to uncover the secret behind their situation. Mekakucity Actors is also known as Kagerou Project, or Heat Haze Daze. The series was based off of two music albums created by Vocaloid artist Jin. Sung by IA, fans loved his work and the stories it told, and begged him to make it into a series. From there, the anime series and light novels were born. Anthologies for Kagepro haze also been made. The art style is very pretty, the shading is unique and gives it a warm vibe. And, of course, the music is to die for, the opening is one of my favorite songs. It's both tragic and heartwarming, something that's hard to find these days.

Poyopoyo Episode 24 - Return of the Round Cuteness

After 24 episodes of Poyopoyo, he has fully captured our hearts. I would give anything to hug and cuddle that cute little guy.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Kaname Madoka is a normal young girl, with a loving family and great friends. Madoka is happy with her lifestyle. But then she meets Kyubey, a creature who offers her one wish, a miracle of sorts. In exchange, she'll become a magical girl and fight witches. She is hesitant at first, as she doesn't have anything she would want to wish for, she just wants to become a magical girl. So she and her friend Miki Sayaka observe a fellow magical girl, Tomoe Mami, the gun slinging senpai. As Madoka meets various other magical girls, and becomes more involved in their world, she soon discovers that the life of a magical girl is one full of tragedy, and one destined to end in sorrow. Puella Magi Madoka Magica was the show that really broke through the magical girl barrier. Typically magical girls are beautiful, sweet, innocent. MG based anime a designed to be aimed towards young girls. But PMMM puts an incredibly dark twist on a formerly pure genre, shocking the public. The creators of PMMM were aiming to surprise viewers, and they most definitely did. They made the opening, the font, as well as their advertisements seem very childish, which threw the public off guard. The plot is one of the best I've seen, and the characters are incredibly well made. The art is all very aesthetic and eye pleasing, the witch designs contrast so much to the normal animation. The series ends on somewhat of a cliff hanger, as well as the companion movie, but they're worth it. There has been another movie confirmed, and we eagerly await the conclusion to this epic series.
